Wichita shooting kills two; police suspect murder-suicide
A man and woman died in shootings that occurred early Sunday morning at a home in southeast Wichita, which police are investigated as a murder-and suicide.
The case involved a 26-year-old man and 21-year-old woman who were formerly domestic partners, Wichita Police Department spokesman Juan Rebolledo said Sunday.
Both the victims were from Wichita. Their identities have not yet been released.
Patrol East officers were flagged down at 3:40 a.m. by a woman who reported that a man had broken into her home in the 800 block of South Edgemoor.
The woman was the roommate and friend of the 21-year-old woman who was shot and died, Rebolledo said in an email.
The man broke into the home armed with a handgun and made suicidal statements, according to a WPD news release.
Officers arrived at the home and tried calling for the man to no success. SWAT and crisis negotiators were called and were not able to talk to the man inside.
SWAT officers entered the home and found both the man and woman dead from gunshot wounds, police said.
The investigation is ongoing and police say there is no threat to the community.
“The Wichita Police Department wishes to convey our sympathies and deepest condolences to the families of all those impacted,” the release said. “Our victim assistance advocates will work with the families to provide support and resources needed at this difficult time.”
