Alabama Barker may be of legal voting age, but she apparently will not be exercising her right to vote come November.
Alabama — the daughter of Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and model Shanna Moakler — recently took to her social media to let followers know she has no interest in participating in the 2024 presidential election, and fans are coming for her.
Alabama shared that she is uneducated about politics and doesn’t want to vote when she is uninformed about what’s happening in the political sphere. According to Billboard Magazine, she said on a livestream, “Not voting isn’t crazy in my opinion at all, because if I don’t feel like I have the exact education for what I’m voting for, how is it right for me to vote [for] something I’m not completely educated on?”
The 18-year-old admitted that while she could learn more about politics, it is not of interest to her. “I could educate myself, but why would I do that if I genuinely really don’t care? I’m just honest,” the influencer remarked.
The California native doubled down and told fans she has no obligation to be in politics. “I don’t care to vote if I don’t know exactly what’s going on. I don’t think that’s wrong, and I completely stand on that and stand by it because, first of all, I just turned 18 and I never voted before. I’ve never voted,” Alabama stated. “If I don’t want to vote, I don’t have to vote. If I don’t want to be in politics, I don’t have to be in politics.”
The model did say she had some thoughts on the matter but did not go into specifics. Alabama admitted she does “have an opinion on what I feel is right because of what I’ve been seeing.” Alabama also referred to one of the candidates as a “mess” but did not specify if she was talking about Kamala Harris or Donald Trump.
Fans went off on X (formerly known as Twitter) sharing how they felt about Alabama’s comments about voting. Many people called out the “privilege” she was born into.
“Alabama Barker saying she won’t educate herself to vote because she doesn’t care is the most privileged shit ever. I wish I was well off enough to not worry about the future for me and my children lmao,” one fan posted on X.
Another individual wrote, “She could ask her parents. She is pure white privilege. So sad.”
“Easy to say being a wealthy nepo baby from California. What an idiot.,” one person posted on the app.
Another person commented, “someone please tell Alabama Barker to get off the internet right tf now.”
Alabama’s father, Travis, is married to Kourtney Kardashian. Travis and Kourtney share a son, Rocky, born in November 2023. In September, after a paparazzi shot of Rocky was leaked, Travis opened up to the Wall Street Journal about wanting to keep the newborn out of the limelight and noted he wished he could have done that more with his other children. Travis also shares son Landon, 20, and step daughter Atiana De La Hoya, 25, with Moakler.
