President Donald Trump’s approval rating has taken a hit during his second term among Hispanics, slipping to tie its lowest point thus far, according to a new Economist/YouGov poll.

Newsweek reached out to the White House via email Wednesday night for comment.

Why It Matters

Historically, Trump has faced backlash and criticism regarding his tough immigration policies. But just last week, Trump’s approval rating with Hispanics reached its highest level since he began his second term in the Oval Office in January, found the Economist/YouGov poll.

Trump has notably touted positive approval ratings in news conferences and campaign rallies throughout his tenure in office and on the stump.

What To Know

In Wednesday’s Economist/YouGov poll, Trump’s approval rating with Hispanic U.S. citizens is 34 percent versus a 56 percent disapproval rating. Last week’s poll showed Trump with a 45 percent approval score among the demographic, with a 52 percent disapproval mark.

This week’s 34 percent approval ties a February 9-11 survey by Economist/YouGov, marking the lowest of his second term. Wednesday’s poll was taken from March 9-11 among 1,699 U.S. citizens, with a margin of error of 3.2 percent.

Trump’s overall approval and disapproval scores in Wednesday’s poll were both at 47 percent.

In a new CNN poll out on Wednesday, Trump’s approval rating regarding the economy among Americans also took a hit. Amid threats of a tariff war and fears of a recession, 56 percent of Americans disapprove of Trump’s handling of the economy.

The poll also shows 44 percent approve of his economic management. The CNN poll was conducted from March 6-9 among 1,206 U.S. adults. The poll has a margin of error of 3.3 percent.

The kids are alright!”

CNN’s Senior Data Reporter Harry Enten this month discussing Trump’s approval rating on the economy on X: “Trump’s overall net approval & on the economy are ‘historically awful… weak, weak, weak’ going into a 1st address to Congress. He has the 2nd worst net approval rating (+1 pts) on record. Beating only himself (2017). His net approval on the economy (-4 pts) is the worst.”

Rasmussen Reports pollster Mark Mitchell posted to X on Wednesday: “CNN releases Trump’s worst approval rating to date, which will erase Trump’s positive net approval on @RCPolitics Meanwhile our numbers are net +4, not net -9, and haven’t really changed.”
