The rivalry between “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and Vince McMahon is one of the most iconic and influential storylines in professional wrestling history.

It helped WWE’s business in the late 90’s and turned around the company that was struggling. He helped launch the Attitude Era.

Their dynamic is considered a masterclass in storytelling, showcasing the power of a compelling babyface-hero relationship. Austin has described McMahon as having been at times a father figure, a brother, a mentor, and a best friend.

While speaking with The Schmo, Austin was asked who was his favorite person to give a stunner to and that’s the former WWE CEO/Chairman. While he noted McMahon didn’t sell the greatest, he was awesome to work with because he was a showman.

“Vince took a lot of crappy ones. Rock took some epic ones. Scott Hall took an epic one in Toronto, wherever that was, at WrestleMania, sh*t, whatever it was, 18 been a bunch of good ones. Anytime you’re able to hit a stunt on anybody, regardless of the sale, that’s a good day at the office.”

Austin continued when asked about McMahon’s work rate. “I loved working with that guy [McMahon]. He was flat-out awesome. You know, the showman, through and through. And you know, third-generation promoter and a guy who always wanted to put on the best show for the people. And that’s what it’s all about—putting on a good show for the people. So I love the guy, and I enjoyed working with him.”

While WWE wanted him for WrestleMania 39, filming commitments prevented his participation. Austin didn’t show up at last year’s Mania but has stated that he’s open to appearing at this year’s event if asked. Austin could make a surprise appearance by helping out Cody Rhodes against John Cena and The Rock.
