Canal Fulton Public Library offers programs

CANAL FULTON – The Canal Fulton Public Library’s Children’s Department, 154 Market St. NE, will offer the following programs. Registration is required; call 330-854-4148 or visit www.canalfulton.org/events.

  • Family Art Night: Christmas Edition, 5 to 6 p.m. Friday: Families and children 3 to 12 years old can enjoy making Christmas cards together.

  • Winter Mugs, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 14: Using the library’s Cricut and mug press, make a winter-themed mug (and hot chocolate) to give as a gift. Recommended ages 6 through 12. Registration is available in time slots; call 330-854-4148, ext. 2.

Food giveaway Saturday

CANTON – Canton Out of Canton will host its annual Warren “Speedy” Pyles Food Giveaway on Saturday at St. Paul’s AME Church, 1800 Tuscarawas St. E. The drive-thru giveaway begins at 11 a.m. and will continue as long as supplies last. No identification or proof of income will be required.

The event is being cosponsored by the Greater Stark County Urban League, city of Canton, Giant Eagle, Aultman Hospital, Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, Huntington Bank, the Christ Foundation, and Absolute Health Services.

Hayrides through Stadium Park

CANTON – Hayrides through Stadium Park to see the light displays will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. The cost is $5 per person. Cookies and hot chocolate will be provided. Hayrides begin and end at the Canton Garden Center, 1615 Stadium Park Dr. NW.

Stark Library plans programs

CANTON – The Stark Library will host the following programs. For more information or to register, visit www.starklibrary.org or call the library branch where the program will take place.

  • Young Moms’ Club Baby Shower, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday in the McKinley Room (SA 107) of the Main Library, 715 Market Ave. N. Receive gently used and new baby necessities and books, play games, win prizes, visit with community organizations, meet Santa Claus. For parents and expectant parents, teens to age 25.

  • Reindeer Rollick, 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the East Canton Branch. Join Santa and Rudolph for a festive experience, featuring a variety of interactive reindeer games and activities.

  • Meet local author and educator Mary Myers, 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Lake Community Branch meeting room. Myers wrote “The Great Raft Race,” a children’s book based on a true story. Books will be available for purchase and can be signed.

  • Understanding Winter Holidays: An Interfaith Celebration and Conversation, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the McKinley Room (SA 107) at the Main Library. Discover the customs and stories associated with each holiday through engaging discussions, suggested books, and hands-on activities.

  • Polar Express, 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday in the meeting room of the Jackson Community Branch. Drink hot cocoa, craft your own ornament, and meet Santa.

  • Winter Wonderland Reindeer Extravaganza, 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 16 in the main meeting room of the DeHoff Memorial Branch. The reindeer-inspired holiday party will include reindeer games, snacks and crafts.

Abortion-loss support group for men meets Wednesday

CANTON – Arrows group, abortion loss support for men, will meet online at 7 p.m. Wednesday. For the link and more information, call or text 330-834-8224. The support group is designed for men and led by men.

Arrows is a monthly online meeting for men at 7 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month.

The First United Methodist Church choir in Massillon performs Christmas songs during the Massillon Community Candlelight Walk last weekend.

Bell ringers to perform Saturday

JACKSON TWP. – Harmony Ringers will perform “Sounds of the Season” at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Stephen Martyr Lutheran Church, 4600 Fulton Drive NW.  The concert is free, but donations are appreciated. For more information, visit www.harmonyringersofoh.org.

Players Guild presents ‘A Christmas Carol’

JACKSON TWP. – The Players Guild Theatre, 6000 Frank Ave. NW, will present “A Christmas Carol” at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 2 p.m. Dec. 15, 7:30 p.m. Dec. 20 and 21, and 2 p.m. Dec. 21 and 22. Deck the Hollow set for Quail Hollow Park

LAKE TWP. − Stark Parks and the Quail Hollow Volunteer Association will hold the annual Deck the Hollow event from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and Dec. 15, 20, 21 and 22 at Quail Hollow Park, 13480 Congress Lake Ave. NE.

This self-guided walk takes visitors around the lighted grounds and through the decorated first floor of the Stewart Manor House, featuring this year’s theme, “Lights, Camera, Christmas.” Visit Santa’s workshop to get a picture and say hello to him. Hot cocoa will be available for purchase (cash only).

Time blocks are every 15 minutes. Take as much time as you would like to enjoy the attractions. Pre-register for $10 per person or $30 per carload. Cash only at the event. Portions of this program are outdoors on a variety of surfaces including gravel, asphalt and grass.

‘A Christmas Carol’ live radio play

MASSILLON − Spotlight Entertainment will present “A Christmas Carol: A Live Radio Play” at 4 p.m. Dec. 15 at Lions Lincoln Theatre, 156 Lincoln Way E. For tickets ($20, $25, $30), visit www.lionslincolntheatre.org or call 330-481-9105.

Massillon Train and Toy Show

MASSILLON – The Massillon Train and Toy Show will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 15 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 988 Cherry Road NW. Admission is $5. Children 12 and younger are free. The show will feature trains of all gauges, train parts, books, videos, farm and vintage toys plus die-cast models and NASCAR items. Food and drink will be available. Parking is free.

Workshops set on stormwater, rain gardens

MASSILLON – A workshop on stormwater pollution prevention plans will be from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Stark Soil and Water Conservation District, 2650 Richville Drive SE. The registration fee is $10 (nonrefundable). Call 330-451-7647 to register.

A rain garden workshop will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Dec. 18 in the Stark Soil and Water Conservation District Conference Room. The hands-on workshop will cover plant selection and starting native plants from seed. Participants can prepare a tray of rain garden plants to take home and stratify in preparation for a spring planting. Space is limited, so registration is required. The registration fee is $15. Holiday variety show set for North Canton Playhouse

NORTH CANTON – The North Canton Playhouse, in Hoover High School at 525 Seventh St. NE, will present “The Snow Must Go On,” a holiday variety show, at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and Dec. 20 and 21. Matinees will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and Dec. 21 and 22. Buy tickets at https://www.northcantonplayhouse.com/tickets. Stark attorney earns award for community service

The Ohio State Bar Foundation recently recognized attorney and Stark County resident Scott P. Sandrock with the Ramey Award for Distinguished Community Service at the 2024 All Rise Annual Awards Celebration in Columbus.

The award is given annually to an Ohio attorney whose career has exemplified a lifetime of service to the public and the community.

As counsel with the Akron law firm Brennan, Manna & Diamond, Sandrock specializes in representing businesses and health care providers in business and regulatory matters, estate planning, and litigation.

He has been president of seven nonprofit organizations, including leadership roles in the Stark County Dental Society Charitable Foundation, the Austin Bailey Foundation, and the Rocco Foundation. His 40 years of involvement with the Boy Scouts of America has included positions as a unit leader, board member and council president. His honors include the Outstanding Eagle Scout Award and the Paul Harris Fellow recognition from Rotary International.

Sandrock also has been a Navarre village councilman and Jackson Township Zoning Commission and Stark County Regional Planning Commission member. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame and The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.
