SIG Sauer recalls 230,000 firearm sights due to ingestion hazard
The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC) has announced that global firearms company SIG Sauer has issued a nationwide recall of approximately 230,000 ROMEO5 Red Dot Sights due to non-compliance with federal safety regulations regarding button cell batteries.

Why It Matters
The recall, announced on January 8, 2025, specifically targets Models SOR52001 and 7400579, which contain CR2032 button cell batteries that are easily accessible and lack required safety warnings.
The ROMEO5 sights containing CR2032 button cells failed to meet federal requirements for child-resistant packaging and proper warning labels.
These batteries pose serious health risks if ingested, potentially causing severe internal injuries, chemical burns, or death, particularly in children.

The recall encompasses ROMEO5 Red Dot Sights sold nationwide between February 2023 and December 2024, with prices ranging from $130 to $200. The affected models, SOR52001 and 7400579, can be identified by either the letter K or M as the final digit of their serial numbers.
Distribution occurred through major retailers including Bass Pro Shops, Cabela’s, Sportsman’s Warehouse, Academy Sports, and Scheels, as well as numerous online platforms such as Amazon, Opticsplanet, and Sigsauer.com.
While no incidents or injuries have been reported, the recall addresses the potential risk of battery ingestion.
