Sauce recall sparks warning to customers
A recall for hot pot sauce by Liaoning Cheng Da USA Inc. has sparked a warning to customers in California on Tuesday.

Why It Matters
Millions of Americans experience food sensitivities or food allergies every year. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the nine “major” food allergens in the U.S. are eggs, milk, fish, wheat, soybeans, Crustacean shellfish, sesame, tree nuts and peanuts.
Customers who have purchased the recalled hot pot sauce who have peanut, wheat, soy or sesame allergies could experience serious or potentially life-threatening reactions if they consume it.
What To Know
According to the FDA, the recall was initiated due to the possibility that the hot pot sauce may contain “undeclared peanut, soy, sesame, and wheat.”
The recalled product was distributed in California and sold in retail stores including Hawaii Supermarket, Great Wall Supermarket and 99 Ranch Market. The brand name of the product is Wangzhihe, and its hot pot sauce is packaged in a plastic container weighing 5.64 ounces, the FDA says.
The sauce has spicy and regular flavors, with lot numbers of 2023/12/20, 2024/1/31, 2024/4/15 and 2024/10/18 found on the back of the recalled product. The hot pot sauce also has UPC numbers of 6907592001375 and 6907592001382 on the front of the packaging.
As of Tuesday, no illnesses had been reported related to the recall, the FDA alert says.

The FDA alert, in part: “The recall was initiated after the manufacturer discovered that the products containing peanut, soy, sesame, and wheat were distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of peanut, soy, sesame and wheat.”
The FDA on its website in January, in part: “Symptoms of food allergies typically appear from within a few minutes to a few hours after a person has eaten the food to which he or she is allergic. A severe, life-threatening allergic reaction is called anaphylaxis.
Symptoms of allergic reactions can include:
- Hives
- Flushed skin or rash
- Tingling or itchy sensation in the mouth
- Face, tongue, or lip swelling
- Vomiting and/or diarrhea
- Abdominal cramps
- Coughing or wheezing
- Dizziness and/or lightheadedness
- Swelling of the throat and vocal cords
- Difficulty breathing
- Loss of consciousness
What Happens Next
Customers who have purchased the recalled product may contact Liaoning Cheng Da USA Inc. from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays PT at 626-285-2887.
The FDA alert also says customers are asked to return the product to the original place of purchase for a refund.
