Nov. 8—The University of Texas Permian Basin hosted a Veterans Day Ceremony Nov. 8 at the Student Activity Center.

Community members, veterans, and UTPB staff, faculty, and students, gathered to honor the men and women who have bravely served our country. The UTPB Band performed, and attendees wore red, white, and blue. The band honored each branch of the military by performing their respective songs.

The Odessa Fire and Rescue Honor Guard posted the colors. UTPB music student Tabitha Jones sang the Star-Spangled Banner, and Crossroads Young Adults Pastor Ja’Vaun Johnson led the invocation. Attendees also listened to a keynote speech delivered by retired U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major Dave Kuhnert.

“Veterans Day is very important to UT Permian Basin, as we have a number of students, faculty, and staff who are veterans. It’s a UTPB tradition to celebrate veterans each year, and we always look forward to this celebration as a community,” said Vice President for Community Engagement and Partnerships, Jacqui Gore.
