Oct. 17—WILLIAMSBURG — During the Southeastern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce luncheon, Kentucky Representative Nick Wilson detailed an array of significant infrastructure projects slated for Whitley County, funded through Kentucky House Bills 1 and 6.

These projects, with a total allocation of $12.9 million, aim to improve key sectors such as water management, corrections facilities and tourism over the next several fiscal years.

One of the most substantial investments is $3 million for water and wastewater extensions to the Kentucky Splash Campground in the City of Williamsburg. This project will help ensure better sanitation and water services for both residents and tourists, a critical upgrade for a growing area.

The Corbin Utilities Commission is set to receive $3.5 million for extensive sewer line improvements, which will accommodate both current demands and future growth in the city. An additional $1.4 million has been allocated for other sewer line expansions in Corbin, emphasizing the focus on modernizing infrastructure.

Tourism remains a priority, with $3.5 million designated for tourism development in the City of Corbin, further enhancing the area’s ability to attract visitors and promote local economic growth. Similarly, $1.5 million will go toward the expansion of the RV Campground and Water Park in Williamsburg, adding value to the recreational offerings of the city.

In terms of public services, $1.5 million has been earmarked for corrections-related renovations in Whitley County, addressing the need for upgrades in the county’s correctional facilities.

The Laurel County Fiscal Court will also receive $1 million for the development of a Regional Fairgrounds, which is expected to serve as a hub for community events and activities in the surrounding area.

Through House Bill 6, an additional $500,000 has been allocated to the Southern Kentucky Tourism Incentive, illustrating the broader strategy of using tourism as a key driver for the region’s economic development.

These investments highlight the state’s dedication to improving critical infrastructure and enhancing tourism opportunities, ensuring long-term growth and sustainability for Whitley County and the surrounding regions.
