Internet in stitches at how woman walks dog without leash—’Desperate times’

A pet owner has been praised as an “innovator” after she was forced to create a make-shift leash for her dog on a trip to her local coffee shop.
A video, posted by TikTok user @worldwidewendell, features her dog donning a cozy sweater in a Starbucks.
But when she couldn’t find a leash at her sister’s house, Wendell’s owner had to improvise, and instead used an extension cord to walk her pup.
The text overlay read: “Walking my dog to Starbucks on an extension cord bc my sister didn’t have a leash at her house.” In a follow-up she commented “desperate times.”
The creative—if unconventional—solution had viewers in stitches, with the owner even joking in the caption about reassuring the barista.
“I’m not trying to electrocute him, I just didn’t want him to miss out on a pup cup,” she said.
The video’s relatability struck a chord with pet owners, prompting a flood of comments, and amazingly there were plenty of pet owners willing to share their own improvisational leash moments.
“I’ve used a iPhone charger for my mini dachshund,” said Hannah.
TikToker Amber said: “LMAO, I used two bungies tied together at my parent’s house for a walk once. Pet parent life.”
Ash cash money wrote: “I used my 10ft phone charger once. It’s just creative thinking.”

Others chimed in with resourceful alternatives, including shoelaces, sewing measuring tapes and even microphone cords.
Others were left in stitches at the idea of the unexpected leash stand-in, such as TikTok user Sydney, who said: “I love this generation.”
Another user, K, simply stated: “This is one of the funniest things I have ever seen.”
In 2023, another dog leash story gained viral attention when a Newfoundland had an unexpected reaction to his owner dropping his leash during a walk.
While testing how alert her dog was during their evening walk, Shannen Salter dropped her dog Hunter’s leash, only to see the docile pup have what she described as a “little panic” when he noticed nobody was on the other end.
“After a quick two-second panic, with me still right in front of him in plain sight, he realized I was still there. He decided to forget about the lead and continue his evening stroll right behind me,” she told Newsweek.
