While we prepare to give thanks, it’s important to remember that not everyone may have the means to enjoy a turkey dinner, or people to share it with.

Here are some places to enjoy a communal meal.

St. John’s Breadline

Run by the Catholic Charities Diocese of Springfield, the breadline serves breakfast and lunch daily to people in need. Guests receive special meals on Thanksgiving and Christmas, and they are served while seated, rather than in the usual cafeteria style.

There will be only one meal served on Thanksgiving Day, which will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. No registration is needed. St. John’s Breadline is located at 430 N. Fifth St.

Holy Family Food Pantry

Also run by the Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Springfield, the pantry donates non-perishable or frozen foods that individuals can receive once a month.

Though the pantry is providing Thanksgiving food to clients, they are at capacity. However, people can apply to receive the Christmas food box if they have not received the Thanksgiving one.

The pantry offers double the amount of food that they normally do for both November and December, so they let their clients choose which month or holiday to receive food.

To sign up, visit the organization’s office at 120 S. 11th St. on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9 a.m. and noon with a photo ID.

Central Illinois Foodbank

The food bank will hand out Thanksgiving meal boxes while supplies last at 1937 E. Cook St. on Nov. 25 at 4 p.m. The start time may change depending on the length of the line.

The drive-up line starts at the intersection of McCreery Avenue and Edwards Street. Organizers ask participants to clear a space in their back seat or trunk. There is a max of two boxes per vehicle. Guests can also walk up without a vehicle.

No registration or ID is needed.

Central Baptist Church

Central Baptist Church, 501 S. Fourth St., will again host its Feast of Plenty, a traditional Thanksgiving meal, in the church’s Merriam Hall from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

To pick up meals or for delivery, contact the church office at 217-523-3639 by noon Wednesday.
