Fired Eaton County jail employee sentenced to years in prison for distributing child pornography

IONIA — A now-former Eaton County jail employee was sentenced Tuesday to nearly 20 years in federal prison related to a charge of distributing child pornography.
Ethan Eversman, 24, of Ionia, was sentenced to 210 months – or about 17 ½ years – on Tuesday by U.S. District Court Judge Hala Jarbou.
He was arraigned in June, one day after the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office fired him, on multiple counts of distributing or promoting child pornography, aggravated possession and using a computer to commit a crime.
He pleaded guilty in November to the distribution charge.
Prosecutors said in a press release that, at Eversman’s request, a 15-year-old New York child created several sexually explicit videos and sent them to Eversman In May 2024.
“A month later, Eversman sent two of those videos to another person online,” prosecutors said. “Eversman was a corrections officer for the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office at the time.”
Investigation began after a tip through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Police collected evidence from Eversman during an interview and a subsequent search of his Ionia home led police to additional evidence, investigators have said.
Cheyvoryea Gibson, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI in Michigan, said investigators worked “tirelessly” to halt Mr. Eversman’s predatory actions.
“I also want to express my gratitude to the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Western District of Michigan for their vital role in ensuring this child predator faces justice,” Gibson said.
