Still need to register to vote before Election Day? There are several different ways to do so.

The deadline to register to vote in the general election is Saturday, Oct. 26 and all applications – including in-person applications – must be received by this date. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 5. Polling sites in New York will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

To qualify for voter registration in New York State, you must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen.

  • Be 18 years old.

  • Be a New York resident and be a resident of the county, city or village for at least 30 days before the election.

  • Not be in prison for a felony conviction.

  • Not be deemed mentally incompetent by a court.

  • Not claim the right to vote elsewhere.

What do I need to register to vote in NY?

According to the state, you’ll need your New York state driver license, permit or non-driver ID card, your zip code currently on record with the DMV and your social security number.

How do I check my voter registration in NY?

Not sure if you’re registered? You can check your voter registration and find your polling place online at voterlookup.elections.ny.gov.

Need a new voter registration card?

Contact your local county Board of Elections for a new voter registration card as they’re issued at the local level. And if you live in New York City, you’ll need email your request to [email protected].

  • Electors vote: Tuesday, Dec. 17

  • Congress counts electoral votes: Monday, Jan. 6

  • Inauguration: Monday, Jan. 20
