Republicans have accused Kamala Harris of using a teleprompter during a town hall on Thursday for the Spanish-language television network Univision, despite the event’s presenter denying it.

Several Republicans shared a video first posted by the Trump War Room account on X, formerly Twitter, of Harris speaking, which appears to show a small screen in front of her that momentarily appears to have words on it before it turns off.

The video is not clear enough to show what was written on the screen, but the vice president continues to speak uninterrupted after it goes off.

Conservative activist Charlie Kirk wrote on X: “BUSTED!! Kamala was just caught using a teleprompter at her Univision town hall! Producers panic and turn off the prompter midway through her answer.”

“Why did Univision allow this?! This is egregious journalistic malpractice,” he added.

Former New York City mayor and Trump ally Rudy Giuliani also shared the video and claimed Harris was caught reading “word-for-word” from a teleprompter.

Juanita Broaddrick, the woman who accused former President Bill Clinton of sexual assault and has since become a Trump supporter, labeled Harris “the biggest Fraud to ever run for office” over the teleprompter claims, in a post on X.

However, the event’s moderator Enrique Acevedo took to X to deny the claim.

Acevedo said: “The prompter displayed my introduction (in Spanish) and then it switched to a timer. Any claim to the contrary is simply untrue.”

Several other clips from the town hall show Harris answering questions from the audience in which the screen is either off or has a timer displayed on it.

Newsweek has reached out to Harris’ campaign and Univision for comment via email outside of regular working hours.

The town hall in Las Vegas was the first of two events in which Harris and Donald Trump will appeal to undecided Latino voters across the country.

Trump is scheduled to hold his respective town hall on October 16 in Miami.

Republicans, including Trump and his vice-presidential pick JD Vance, have often accused Harris of using a teleprompter.

Earlier this month, conservatives were quick to point out a moment at a Michigan rally where the Democratic presidential nominee appeared to repeat herself during a teleprompter glitch.

Trump, meanwhile, has boasted that he does not need teleprompters, despite complaining that his teleprompters were not working during multiple rallies in recent months.

It is fairly normal for politicians to use teleprompters during public appearances, particularly in televised events or speeches.

They are less commonly used during town halls, which are designed to allow political candidates and voters to have unscripted interactions.
