Columbus man killed in Near East Side shooting Friday identified by coroner

The Franklin County Coroner’s Office has identified a Columbus man who was killed in a shooting last week on the city’s Near East Side.

Monroe Brown, 48, of the city’s South Side, was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting Friday morning, Nov. 29, in the 1700 block of East Main Street, the coroner’s office said.

A second person whom police have not publicly identified was transported in critical condition with gunshot wounds to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in downtown Columbus. He was later upgraded to stable condition, according to a Columbus police dispatcher.

Police have not identified any suspects or circumstances leading up to the shooting.
