Calhoun County police arrest Ingham County man who fled trial for attempted murder

BATTLE CREEK — Calhoun County deputies on Wednesday arrested an Ingham County man who was being sought after fleeing while on trial for attempted murder.
The 41-year-old man was arrested shortly after 3 p.m. along Interstate 69, south of Interstate 94, according to a release from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.
When arrested, the man was in possession of multiple firearms and body armor. He was turned over to the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office. The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is pursuing multiple charges. The investigation is ongoing, police said.
The incident began about 3 p.m. Wednesday, when Ingham County police issued a Be On the Lookout notice about the 41-year-old Mason man, the release said. The man, who is on trial for attempted murder, removed a court-ordered tether device and fled from an unspecified location, police said.
At about 3:15 p.m., a Calhoun County deputy spotted a vehicle matching the description provided by Ingham County traveling west on I-94 near Old 27 Highway.
The deputy coordinated with additional police units and then attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle continued south on I-69 for about 4 miles before pulling over near mile marker 28.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Michigan State Police, Marshall Police Department, and Calhoun County Consolidated Dispatch.
