Amarillo police investigating man’s death after reported altercation at residence Sunday

The Amarillo Police Department is investigating an incident reported as a suspicious death from over the weekend.

APD said officers were called to a residence in the 300 block of North Carolina on a medical call at around 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Officers who had arrived at the scene learned there had been a fight between two individuals, and one of them, identified as Michael Mayfield, 43, had died.

Next of kin were notified. The APD Homicide Unit was called, and the incident is still under investigation.
